Face Lift

Face Lift – Description

A FaceLift is the surgery that improves the visible signs of aging and turns the time back.

Stress, smoking, heredity, environmental conditions, or, just the passage of time are some of the leading factors of the first signs of aging skin on the face and neck. The signs of time in the face, but also in the neck, create dissatisfaction.

Face Lift – Applications

Face Lift – Aesthetic applications

  1. Correction of wrinkles at the side of the eye in the temple area.
  2. Fixing of the loose middle face, ie the cheekbones and the cheeks.
  3. Correction of the oval of the face.
  4. Correction of wrinkles and of the loosening of the neck.

Face Lift – Reconstructive applications

  • The Facelift also takes place in cases of significant face asymmetry

Face Lift – Type of anesthesia

FaceLift is performed either with general or with local anesthesia and light sedation.

After surgery, the patient may leave the hospital on the same day. In some cases, the patient must stay until the morning of the following day. In order for the patient to leave the hospital, it is necessary to be escorted by somebody and, in case he leaves the hospital on the same day he should have a close person companioning him/ her during the night.

Face Lift – What should be done Pre-operatively

  1. Classic preoperative check.
  2. Do not drink and do not eat anything 12 hours before the surgery.
  3. On the morning of surgery, you should not take any medication unless the anesthesiologist says so.
  4. Smoking and alcohol should be stopped at least 3 weeks before surgery.
  5. Meeting with the anesthesiologist before surgery. You should report past anesthesia experiences, positive or negative, and inform him/her of any health problems or medication that you receive.
  6. Do not take aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs or herbal supplements 10 days before surgery, because they increase the chance of bleeding during and after surgery.
  7. Wash your face and hair with pharmaceutical soap daily, for 3 days prior to the surgery.

Face Lift – Surgery technique

Surgical Incision

The incision from each side begins at the hair and over the ear and falls directly in front of the ear to the limit of the lobe. There in some cases of severe laxity, it returns behind his/her ear and ends up in his/her hair. The surgeon mainly handles a very thin tissue (SMAS) just beneath the skin and repositions it, in its original position. Then the surgeon repositions the skin in its original condition and removes the excess. This technique clears the facial and neck wrinkles and, most importantly, the skin laxity is canceled. The profile recovers the youthful corner of the inferior mandible.

With this technique, we have no deformation of the face and it does not change the person’s physiognomy. Most of the time facelift goes unnoticed even by our closest people.

In some cases, and especially in people who have lost a lot of their face tissue, we use fat transplantation to give the person the lost volume. Fat autologous transplantation is wise and in certain points so that the results are completely natural. These spots may be cheekbones, deep wrinkles on the side of the nose, and lips. The duration of the surgery is about 2 – 4 hours (The duration depends on the severity)

Face Lift – Post-operative instructions

After surgery, the face is circumferentially covered with a rubber bandage to avoid very intense edema or bruising. The bandage is removed the next day and replaced with a ribbon, which should ideally stay for a week.

Shampooing is allowed 48 hours after surgery.

Face Lift – Complications

Complications are rare after FaceLift.

  • Hematoma: Hematoma is the most common complication of a facelift. For this reason, the wounds are examined the next day after the surgery and any blood collection at some point is removed without pain or some difficulty of the person concerned.
  • Inflammation: A very rare complication. To avoid this, we prescribe antibiotics during and after surgery.
  • Bad wound healing: rare complication, but if an incision is more apparent than expected, it may be corrected with local anesthesia after 6 months.
  • Lack of sensation: A disorder of the sensation in the ear lobe is a rare complication that recurs over time.

Face Lift – Results

The duration of the effect of a Full Facelift is about 7-10 years.

  4. 6 hours before surgery do not drink anything.
  5. On the morning of the operation do not take any medication without the anesthesiologist's approval.

  7. In the case of general anesthesia, it is necessary to meet with the anesthesiologist before the surgery.
  8. Report previous anesthetic experiences, either positive or negative and inform him/her of any health problems or medication you are taking.
  9. Do not take aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, or herbal supplements 10 days before the surgery, as they increase the possibility of bleeding during and after surgery.
  10. 3 days before the surgery and every day after washing your face or body with medicated soap, depending on the planned surgery.

General Complications after surgery

Complications in plastic surgery operations are not common but it is necessary to be aware of them at the first appointment.

  • Hematoma: A hematoma is the accumulation of blood in the wound.
  • Inflammation: To prevent inflammation, antibiotics are administered during surgery.
  • Poor wound healing: If the incision in the operated site is more prominent than expected, it can be corrected 6 months to a year after surgery with local anesthesia. In some cases, the appearance of keloids is possible where specific treatment is needed.
  • Skin necrosis: It is more likely in heavy smokers.
  • Pulmonary embolism and thrombosis.
